Parent Education Corner
"Education is not primarily about the acquisition of information. It is not even about the acquisition of 'skills' in the conventional sense, to equip us for particular roles in society. It is about how we become more human (and therefore more free, in the truest sense of that word). This is a broader and a deeper question, but no less practical. Too often we have not been educating our humanity. We have been educating ourselves for doing rather than for being." – Stratford Caldecott, Beauty for Truth's Sake

THERE'S AN APP FOR THAT! Introducing The Oaks App
The Oaks exists to partner with parents to raise classically educated young men and women who glorify Christ, shape culture, and shine the light of God's truth on all of life's endeavors. Therefore, we are excited to introduce The Oaks App! Designed to bless and edify parents as they live out their God-given calling, the app provides video podcasts, audio & video versions of Monday Meals, push notifications for community events, and information on extracurricular programs. Grammar School
Conservatory Faculty Recital
Fri., Nov. 19 at 2pm
The Oaks Conservatory faculty will be performing a concert for the entire grammar school on Friday, November 19 at 2pm in the gym. Parents and family are welcome to attend as well.
Daily Start Times
As families continue to develop routines for the school year, please remember that classroom doors open at 8am on Mondays, allowing students time to unpack and be ready to depart the classroom by 8:12am. This way classes are in the gym and ready for Cantabile to begin promptly at 8:15am. Classroom doors open at 8:15am the remainder of the week (Tues.–Fri.). When running late, please check in at the office and then your child may join their class either in the gym for Cantabile (Mondays) or in the classroom (Tues.–Fri.).
Winter Recess Readiness
As the weather cools, please make sure to send a coat with your child, in addition to the cardigan or track jacket. Grammar students enjoy going outside for recess even when it's cold and there is a light sprinkling. Now might be a good time to gather gloves and hats for winter recess in the weeks to come. When will the first recess snowman be built this year?! And don't forget to label all of your child's items so that they can easily be returned if they happen to be lost.

A Note From the Dean Re: Monthly Memorization
Each day I have the privilege of reading the scriptures with our Oaks secondary school ladies and gentlemen right before the lunch blessing. It is a highlight of my day! In the first four weeks of the 2021-22 school year, we read from Psalm 119. throughout the reading of eight verses a day, we focus our attention on the importance of loving the Word of the Lord and the joy of knowing that it directs us along the path of righteousness. Hear Psalm 119:97–104:
Oh, how I love Your law!
It is my meditation all the day.
You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies;
For they are ever with me.
I have more understanding than all my teachers,
For Your testimonies are my meditation.
I understand more than the ancients,
Because I keep Your precepts.
I have restrained my feet from every evil way,
That I may keep Your word.
I have not departed from Your judgements,
For You Yourself have taught me.
How sweet are Your words to my taste,
Sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Through Your precepts I get understanding;
Therefore I hate every false way.
To increase our students' love of God's Word, we will begin memorizing a selection of scripture each month. This is NOT an additional academic requirement; rather, it is an opportunity to join together to grow in grace. I will read our monthly selection each Tuesday and Thursday before the lunch blessing and encourage our ladies and gentlemen to include a review of the selected scripture in their daily devotion. It is a fine idea to learn the chosen monthly scripture as a family. Our October scripture was Psalm 1, followed by Exodus 20:1–17 in November.
Blessings on each of you!
Mr. Trotter

AP Exams - Registration now open
*Registration deadline - Fri., Nov. 12
High school students have the opportunity to take the Advanced Placement exam this May at The Oaks. For some colleges, students can receive college credit for passing an AP exam, scoring a "3" and above (on a 1-5 scale). This will enable a student to waive the equivalent college course during freshman year (Freshman English Composition, for example). So, for those participating colleges, passing an AP exam will save money (and time) in the long run. Each university handles AP credit differently; you will want to check out a specific college to understand how they treat AP exam scores.
To register, log into your Jupiter parent portal, go to Forms and select AP Exam Registration. Once your registration is processed the exam fee will be applied to your Jupiter account and may be paid by cash or check in the school office or via credit card through Jupiter. Registration and payment are due by Friday, November 12. Please read the letter below for further information and contact Mrs. Lynn Gibson with any questions.
