Set Painting Party - Sat., Oct. 24, 12pm
The Oaks Theatre Department is inviting everyone to a set painting party on Sat., Oct. 24 at 2716 N University Rd, Unit B. So, come in your paint clothes to enjoy some hard work, good pizza, and fun fellowship! There is lots of painting to be done in preparation for the upcoming Fall Play, so the more help the better. If you and your family would like to participate please RSVP to the school office and let us know of any food restrictions or allergies.
Uniform Notes - Shorts/Pants & Outerwear
Students are looking so sharp in their new uniform pieces! As we adapt to the new policy, both new and returning families should read the updated policy over carefully. Of particular note:
- Shorts/Pants -- Secondary boys will be happy to know that they can now wear shorts all year long. We're not exactly sure why they would want to wear shorts in January, but we bet some will! In November, ladies may begin wearing pants if they so choose. November is also when the formal uniform for ladies changes to include black tights.
- Outerwear -- As the current policy states, during the school day, secondary students may only wear outerwear items included in the uniform policy. "The school day" includes the time when students arrive on campus until they leave - unless they are changing into clothes for a particular extra-curricular activity that requires different attire after school. When the days become frigid such that warm winter coats are required, those may be worn into the school building and then stowed in students' lockers until the end of the day.
Debate Club
The Debate club, open to 9th-12th graders, will be a semester-long apprenticeship in the art of argument. Only those who understand--the issue and the sides--have earned the right to debate. The work is good fun--God made us to reason rigorously and rejoice in the truth. We'll laugh, we'll listen, we'll lose. The arena awaits. Please note that online tournament participation will be optional. Additionally, 10th-12th graders may request class credit, contingent upon completion of certain requirements. We'll meet in MP-2 on Mondays from 3:15-4:15pm. Tea & treats are a given. Please message Miss Emily Woodroof if your child plans to attend, either for credit or simply as a club member. There is a $60 fee that covers club materials and a t-shirt. Any tournament fees would be an additional cost.
College Financial Aid & Scholarship Workshop Recording
Any families of 9th-12th grade students who missed the College Financial Aid & Scholarship Virtual Workshop this past week are welcome to watch the recording (link below). Mrs. Lynn Gibson, Director of College and Career Counseling, gave an overview of the types of college aid, tips on filing your FAFSA, scholarships to consider, and the "real cost" of college. For questions, please contact Mrs. Gibson.

SAT School Day - Mar. 3, 2021
Families of juniors and seniors: Mark your calendars March 3, 2021 for SAT School Day. Beginning this year, The Oaks will administer the SAT test at our school during the midweek for all juniors and any seniors who need to take it to fulfill The Oaks' graduation requirement. We are offering this new opportunity going forward for a few reasons:
- Convenience -- Students don't have to worry about locating or traveling to another school's testing site. Also, School Day testing won't disrupt weekend plans, jobs, or family time. Students are welcome to take additional SAT tests throughout the year on their own if they choose.
- Comfort -- Students will test in familiar surroundings with students they know.
- Cancellations -- An SAT test held at our school will eliminate the chance of a student's test site suddenly cancelling the test and bumping their registration to another month. This will save our families the confusion and hassle of rescheduling.
Registration for the test will occur between Jan. 11-22. The SAT test without the essay portion will be offered for $52. Details and registration forms will be made available in January. For questions, contact Mrs. Lynn Gibson.
