Parent Education Corner

"Almighty God, as I cross the threshold of this day I commit myself, soul, body, affairs, friends to Thy care. Watch over, keep, guide, direct, sanctify, bless me. Incline my heart to thy ways. Mould me wholly into the image of Jesus, as a potter forms clay. May my lips be a well-tuned harp to sound Thy praise. Let those around see me living by Thy Spirit, trampling the world underfoot, unconformed to lying vanities, transformed by a renewed mind, clad in the entire armour of God, shining as a never-dimmed light, showing holiness in all my doings. Let no evil this day soil my thoughts, words, hands. May I travel miry paths with a life pure from spot or stain. In needful transactions let my affection be in heaven, and my love soar upwards in flames of fire, my gaze fixed on unseen things, my eyes open to the emptiness, fragility, mockery of earth and its vanities. May I view all things in the mirror of eternity, waiting for the coming of my Lord, listening for the trumpet call, hastening unto the new heaven and earth. Order this day all my communications according to Thy wisdom, and to the gain of mutual good. Forbid that I should not be profited or made profitable. May I speak each word as if my last word, and walk each step as my final one. If my life should end today, let this be my best day."  – Morning Dedication, Valley of Vision  (this prayer was offered at the Father/Son Breakfast)

Uniform Notes

Seasonal Uniform Notes for Ladies as of Nov. 1

  • TIGHTS (K–5 ladies): White footed tights or knee socks are required for the formal uniform, beginning November 1 for Oaks' ladies in K–5th grades.
  • TIGHTS (6–12 ladies): Black (or dark navy) footed tights or knee socks are required for the formal uniform, beginning November 1 for Oaks' ladies in 6–12th grades.
  • PANTS (K–12 ladies): Oaks ladies may begin wearing uniform pants in the month of November. Pants are an optional item and may only be worn on non-formal uniform days.
  • Uniform Policy & Pictorial Handbook

A Note about Tights:

When purchasing tights, please check the packaging carefully to ensure you are in fact purchasing tights, as opposed to leggings. While "footless tights" are acceptable for 6–12th grade ladies on non-formal days, footed tights (or knee socks) must be worn on formal days. Leggings are not uniform approved. Secondary families, black tights are preferred for the formal uniform. Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my! We recognize that purchasing these items has become more challenging as the verbiage and styles being offered changes regularly. We try to keep our terms as current & clear as possible while maintaining The Oaks standard in our attire. Your attention to these details is a blessing to the entire school family.

Oaks Logo Embroidery Requirement Reminder

As a reminder, the embroidered Oaks logo is required on all uniform tops (shirts, vests, jackets, etc.). All uniform items, excepting vests & cardigans, must be purchased through Lands' End using our school number so that the proper embroidery is in place. If embroidery is needed for your vests or cardigans (purchased from Spokane Uniform House) please drop them off at the school office for the next run. New vests and cardigans may be exchanged for the same item with the logo already on it. The embroidery cost for these items is $5.95 (tax included) per item.

NOVEMBER SCRIPTURE MEMORIZATION

Deal bountifully with Your servant,
That I may live and keep Your word.
Open my eyes, that I may see
Wondrous things from Your law.
I am a stranger in the earth;
Do not hide Your commandments from me.
My soul breaks with longing
For your judgments at all times.
You rebuke the proud–the cursed,
Who stray from Your commandments.
Remove from me reproach and contempt,
For I have kept Your testimonies.
Princes also sit and speak against me,
But Your servant meditates on Your statutes
- Psalm 119:17-23
