In his book You Are What You Love, James K.A. Smith defines a word that should be familiar with us all:
"Liturgy," as I'm using the word, is a shorthand term for those rituals that are loaded with an ultimate Story about who we are and what we're for. They carry within them a kind of ultimate orientation. To return to our metaphor above, think of these liturgies as calibration technologies: they bend the needle of our hearts. ... [God] meets us where we are, as creatures of habit who are shaped by practices, and invites us into a community of practice that is the very body of his Son. Liturgy is the way we learn to "put on" Christ.
In other words, the things we do individually and corporately on a regular basis are our "liturgies." Examine, for a moment, the liturgies of our homes. What do we as parents do regularly? What do our children do regularly? What common patterns emerge when we consider our repetitive activities? These things constitute the culture of our homes. And if they are not oriented towards God, then how can we change that?

Cantabile - 2nd Semester Updates & Appreciation
With the beginning of a new semester we wanted to take a moment to thank all those parents who attend Cantabile regularly. It's a joy to see the Oaks family come together to sing to our Lord as we begin and conclude each week. Even if you are only able to make it occasionally, we love having you there! As you are aware, Bible reading is an important part of Cantabile and at the start of the semester Mr. Trotter introduced a short liturgy that is being incorporated into the Bible reading (see below). God gives us many good gifts and the gift of His word is at the top of the list. As The Oaks family let's teach and train our children to love this wonderful gift, His Word! At the end of Cantabile Mr. Dowers is teaching us all a Puritan prayer for Monday mornings and a Prayer for Guidance for Friday afternoons (see below) that we, as a family, will be memorizing and reciting throughout the 2nd semester. We hope that these pieces will be a joy and encouragement to your own family as we grow and lean into God's abundant goodness as an Oaks family.
BIBLE READING LITURGY
What is this book?
The Bible
What is found in the Bible?
The very Word of God
What do we know about God's Word?
It is True
Because it is True, what should we do?
With a glad heart, listen and obey
A PURITAN PRAYER
(Monday mornings)
O Lord, as I cross the threshold of this day I commit myself, soul, body, affairs, and friends, to Thy care.
Watch over, keep, guide, sanctify, and bless me.
Let those around see me living by Thy Spirit, transformed by a renewed mind, clad in the whole armor of God, showing holiness in all my doings.
May I speak each word as if my last word, and walk each step as my final one.
If my life should end today, let this be my best day.
In the name of our Lord Jesus we pray.
Amen
PRAYER FOR GUIDANCE
(Friday afternoons)
Direct us, O Lord, in all our doings,
with thy most gracious favor,
and further us with thy continual help;
that in all our works begun, continued, and ended in thee,
we may glorify thy holy Name, and finally,
by thy mercy, obtain everlasting life;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Monthly Jupiter Invoice Reminder
As a reminder, any family with a current balance owing in Jupiter will receive an invoice on the 1st of each month. At this time, those who have children enrolled in both grammar & secondary will receive two invoices. We have contacted Jupiter to fix this, but in the meantime please know that the second invoice is a duplicate of the first. Providing you with this monthly invoice is intended to be a blessing and provide an additional level of service. Please contact Mrs. Michelle Lily, Oaks Bookkeeper, if you have questions regarding your invoice. Mrs. Anya Schnell is available for questions regarding Jupiter.
Reminder: No Oaks Sweatshirts
On non-formal uniform days this fall/winter Oaks students had the opportunity to wear their Oaks hoodies and crew necks during the school day. As a reminder, upon returning from mid-winter break, as we head into spring, Oaks sweatshirts are no longer acceptable uniform items during the school day.
