A Thought To Savor
"The happiest and holiest children in the world are the children whose fathers succeed in winning both their tender affection and their reverential and loving fear. And they are the children who will come to understand most easily the mystery of the fatherhood of God."

Clarification Re: Rain/Snow Boots for Grammar Students
As the weather is often rainy (and hopefully snowy soon!) many grammar students are wearing or bringing rain/snow boots for recess. We are so thankful for these great shoes that keep our feet dry and warm in these winter months! As we seek to maintain our school's uniform policy here are a few notes of clarification in regards to boots.
- Boots worn only for recess may be any color, but students must have proper uniform shoes for indoor wear.
- If worn all day on a regular uniform day, boots should be solid-colored black, brown, navy, grey, or white.
- Boots may not be worn on formal uniform days, but may be brought for recess.
Please see the complete Uniform Policy for further footwear details (pg. 2, 7, & 9).

Protocol Attire
Formal attire (also known as black tie) is more formal than business attire and slightly less formal than white tie. It is the most common formal dress code for events such as weddings, balls, formal dinners, and theatre.
When choosing your attire for this event, please be mindful of modesty and show preference to others. This event is designed to be a blessing for all in attendance. Thinking of others when making your clothing selections helps to ensure a beautiful evening.
- Ladies - formal, floor length evening gown or ball gown skirt (full coverage, closed back, preferably with sleeves-if wide strapped must be covered with a wrap; nothing revealing, strapless, or with high slits); simple, non-dangly jewelry; dress shoes; dress wrap or jacket - Ladies' Protocol Attire Ideas
- Gentlemen - suit in a dark color, white shirt, and traditional bow tie or tuxedo (dark vest with suit jacket, pocket squares, cufflinks, and shirt studs are all acceptable); dark dress socks and dress shoes (no tennis shoes); no gloves, hats, or sunglasses. - Gentlemen's Protocol Attire Ideas
Winter Ball Gown Closet
The Protocol team is hosting a winter ball gown exchange that offers FREE BALL GOWNS AND WRAPS to Rhetoric School ladies looking for a lovely dress for the upcoming Winter Ball. Families who would like to donate a modest formal gown (floor length only for the winter ball) or dress wrap/jacket may do so by bringing it to the clothing rack inside the girls locker room next to the showers. The gown or wrap you donate is freely offered to any young lady in grades 10–12. If the gown fits, it's hers to keep (or donate back)! We hope this is a blessing to the giver and receiver alike. Please contact Mrs. Teri Woodroof if you have any questions.

Lands' End School Starboard Scholarship (due 1/19/24)
And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger." And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"
